Looking around here in the US, we see our own corn growing tall and ready for harvest. In Kenya, it is also harvest time for the 7 acres of maize crop grown by the women of Yote Yawezekana Women's Group.  The women have organized themselves for the harvest and will shuck the maize, remove the kernels from the cobs, and dry the kernels in the sunshine to store for the year.  They will apply preservative and place the kernels in big sacks.  They will divide the harvest amongst themselves to feed their families.  The maize is ground up and used to make ugali, a sort of white corn porridge, the staple food in this area of Kenya.

A friend of Projects of Hope has inquired about helping a child with disabilities in Kenya.  We are looking into how we can best support a toddler who has been identified, and possibly other children with special needs in the future.

We are extremely proud of two of our scholarship recipients who rank at the top of their class due to their hard work this semester.  Lenah (grade 4) and Sebastian (grade 8).  The students start their last semester for the year on September 4th.  Keep them in your prayers as they begin preparing for final exams during October and November.  Projects of Hope continues to support the youth affected by poverty in Kenya through tuition assistance, tutoring, lunch, school supplies, uniforms, etc.  The children are so grateful to have the opportunity to go to school!

The FSD volunteers had an amazing impact on the Kakamega, Kenya region this summer through a wide range of sustainable community initiatives.  A hardworking young woman spent the summer at Shikokho Medical Clinic (the same place I volunteered last summer).  You can read all about Dawn's adventures and see photos of the region of Kenya where we are working, by reading her blog.
