25 children are attending school!! through the Yote Yawezekana Scholarship Fund thanks to your kindness! The names of the children that were recently identified through the outreach efforts of Yote Yawezekana are: Evans, Rachael, Sebastian, Celestine, Joab, Dalmas, and Meryline.
With more than 5 kids having paid fees to participate in the feeding program at Shikokho Primary School, the program has been revived and is now functional and operating. This is a wonderful accomplishment!
A guidance and counseling forum was organized by our project coordinator with the children and their families before the schools reopened on May 8th. During this time they had a guest speaker (a volunteer from the US who is in the village teaching at Shikokho primary) speak to the kids. They hope to introduce an incentive program to encourage the students to work hard and improve in school and give these awards during future guidance and counseling forums. The youth were especially encouraged to support one another by mobilizing their own clubs where they could share and learn together.
There are also ten interns coming to the Kakamega region of Kenya with the Foundation for Sustainable Development for the summer. The community and the interns are both excited!
The Maize Growing Initiative continues to go well with great collaboration among the members of Yote Yawezekana to care for the maize together. All the plots have been weeded and top-dressed with fertilizer. |
