Dear Friends,

The news regarding the political situation in Kenya following the presidential election is deeply concerning. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan is providing mediation to assist during the crisis. Please continue to pray for the many people throughout Kenya threatened with violence and displacement from their homes. The BBC web site has continued updates.

I want to write and offer you reassurance that the women and children support by Projects of Hope are safe. The violence has not reached their community.

This year, Projects of Hope will be providing some small microfinance loans to members of Yote Yawezekana Women's Group to develop or enhance their own small businesses, such as selling produce. The World Bank reports, "Studies have shown that when poor people have access to financial services, their children stay in school longer, their families enjoy better nutrition and health care, and substandard housing receives attention." This "Project of Hope" will provide the widows a way forward to generate income. The women will soon be receiving training and developing plans that will empower them to meet their own needs.
